Harvest in Haiti

With your help, this spring we supplied 17.5 tons of premium seed corn to Haitian farmers unable to purchase seed after the January quake. Now some 1500 rural families are working to bring in a healthy corn harvest. Thank you! The seeds were formulated especially for Haitian soil, and with good rainfall, yields have been higher than expected. “The ears are large and taste very sweet,” reports Lori Moise of Real Hope for Haiti, who handled the bulk of distribution. Most rural families depend on crops from their half-acre to one-acre plots for food and income, and since quake aid was widely distributed in urban areas, a true crisis loomed for those in outlying areas. For now they’re eating well, though, roasting or boiling the corn or drying it to grind into meal. Some have enough leftover to sell and share. The project has been such a success, we’re now gearing up for another shipment. Together, we can give these hardworking families a way to feed themselves and their neighbors for the season ahead. Will you help?
